Sombrio's Secret

Sombrio Beach, on the Western coast of Vancouver Island, has many beautiful and amazing features, but one of my favourites is the hidden water fall.  Over time this water fall has cut it's way back into the sandstone cliff.  You can walk back into the mossy cave it has created and stand right below the falls.  It's a challenging scene to photograph with the lighting extremes and the narrow space.  I've visited the falls multiple times, but never walked away with a photo that does the experience justice.  This one is no exception, but it's the closest I've come.

Small Fry

A friend of mine, and her boyfriend, adopted a kitten this weekend.  The little fellow below is Phillip J. Fry, or Fry for short.  Him and his siblings were brought into Pacific Cat Clinic at just five days old when their mother was hit and killed by a car.  Luckily the clinic had a mother cat who had just weaned her litter and was still lactating.  She took in the orphaned litter and cared for them until they were old enough to be adopted.

Little Fry was pretty frisky when we went to visit so I didn't get many shots of him, but as you can tell, he's pretty darn cute.

Cameron Lake

We were driving back from Ucluelet today and there was a heavy fog crawling along the tops of the mountains as we cut across the island from the west coast to the east.  There were so many beautiful photos waiting to be taken but unfortunately the highway is narrow, and winding, and heavily treed.  Pull off spots that coincided with the shots I wanted were few and far between, so I watched with dismay as my photo ops became missed opportunities.  Finally as we passed Cameron Lake there was a gravel pull off at the lakes edge.  My husband pulled off and I fired off this shot before the rain started to fall and obscured the focus.

Gabriola Beauty

I got to go out to Gabriola to stay at a friend's cabin again recently.  The cabin has been in the family for a long time, and as a result there are some pretty interesting artifacts in the cabin

We had a bit of a hot water tank "issue" while we were there, and spent the rest of the weekend trying to fry out towels by the fireplace and a radiator.  It was pretty foggy in the cabin.  On another note, the big black patch you can see in the water in the picture below - those are all sand dollars.
